Y Garn Cloud Inversion
It’s no secret that I LOVE cloud inversions. They are so elusive…which I guess is part of the fun! Many a hike the conditions have been forecast perfectly for an inversion, but the reality has been something different on the hike! There is nothing better than when it all works out, like it did this morning. The conditions were ideal, alarm was set and I did question my life choices when it went off after around 3 hours sleep. But I was hopeful.
As I haven’t done much hiking this year, it was gruelling getting up Y Garn. There was no wind and it was quite warm on the ascent. Visibility wasn’t great and for a good while I worried that we would just be in the cloud, and wouldn’t get above it. As has happened many times before! But this time it all paid off, as we broke through the clouds. Just in time for the sun rising! And what a sight to behold. It was breathtaking. The clouds below were like a huge, velvety white blanket laying in the valley, with the highest points peaking above. I had to get the drone out, it really captures so much more of the scene.
I am looking forward to sharing some more images of this morning. Would a guide to weather conditions for cloud (temperature) inversions be helpful? Let me know what you want to see in the comments below!
