Sunset at Coniston Jetty

I really don’t go the Lake District as often as I should, I often find it is quite busy and it is hard to find quieter locations, and there always seems to be more light pollution here when doing astro. The first time I came to this jetty was a weekend- and boy what a bad idea that was! it was RAMMED everywhere, so many selfish people having fires by the edges of the lake, it was such a disappointment. People were openly ‘wild camping’ by the edge of the water, which really isn’t on the spirit of wild camping at all. I had an image in mind for the Milky Way, but there was no chance this was going to happen as there was a large amount of people having a BBQ right at the edge of the jetty, with a fire and then people who seemed to be night fishing on the jetty itself.

I went back again on a week night and it was such a different picture- no cars parked anywhere, so quiet you could hear a pin drop! There was just me, the bats, some squirrels and I am sure plenty more wildlife out there. I got my camping chair up and sat and relaxed whilst the sun set- it was absolute bliss! I couldn’t resist getting some shots of the jetty with the sky filled with pink and blue hues.
