Ethereal Eglwys Cwyfan, The Little Church in The Sea
This is a place I had dreamed of capturing the Milky Way at- Eglwys Cwyfan in Ynys Môn (Anglesey), also known as The Little Church in the Sea. The Milky Way lines up behind the church later in the Milky Way season, and I got this shot at the end of August 2024. Previous years I had been thwarted by clouds at this location, and this year I was fortunate enough to shoot here three times!
It is an incredibly peaceful location at night, the stars twinkle over the sea and the waves lap the shore. Because it is such a beautiful place and quite accessible, don’t be surprised to find plenty of astrophotographers there on a clear night! I met a few cool people at this location at night.
Because the church gets cut off with the high tide, I would like to go back and shoot here again with the tide in. I think this is a place I would never tire of visiting.
This was shot with my Samyang 35mm lens, and is a tracked image. The sky was tracked for four minutes in total, and the foreground image was taken after the sun had set before darkness set in and was a two and a half minute exposure.
