Otherwordly Aurora over the Irish Sea

Back on the 10th May 2024, I was fortunate enough to witness one of the most impressive natural events I have ever witnessed. I had seen on the groups that there was something big that COULD happen, so a friend and I decided to head to the tip of the Llyn Peninsula. My thinking was that at least if nothing happened aurora wise, we could still get the Milky Way from that location.

It ended up being a G5 solar storm and I couldn’t believe what I saw that night. It was visible to the naked eye, it was all over the sky, south, north, east to west and overhead. It was difficult to know where to look! Colour was clearly visible to the naked eye. And it was active the entire night and didn’t seem to let up, even packing the car up as the darkness started to fade it was still visible. A night to remember, and this is just one of over a thousand images I took of a beautiful pillar over the Irish Sea.
