Trwyn Du Shooting Star and Aurora Borealis

At the end of August 2024, chasing the aurora borealis I ended up at Penmon Point in Anglesey. Tywyn Du Lighthouse, also known as Penmon Lighthouse, is an iconic place to catch the aurora borealis as it is north facing with less light pollution. I was able to capture some diffuse northern lights, but to my surprise I actually caught this stunning, colourful meteor. Which was incredible- usually I see plenty of shooting stars but they always seem to happen just out of shot.

It is such a shame the Milky Way doesn’t line up behind this lighthouse, but I have some ideas for some images I would like to capture in 2025. watch this space! This was a single image of the sky with a ten second exposure, and the foreground was a ten image stack to reduce noise.
